The Necessity of Cargo Insurance
With the evolving global shipping landscape, risks vary across trade lanes: geopolitical tensions on the Red Sea, port strikes in Europe & US, cargo theft and customs detention in Africa & Latin America, moisture damage and shortage in Southeast Asia.
The WRS War Risk Surcharge collected by carriers covers the vessel hull only, NOT your cargo. Standard ICC All Risks automatically excludes losses arising from war, seizure, strikes and civil commotion.
Carriers’ liability limit is low under international shipping conventions and cannot fully compensate your cargo loss.
We recommend tailored cargo insurance for all routes: ICC A (All Risks) for mainstream lanes. For high-risk areas including the Red Sea and Yemen, ICC A plus War Risk (CL385) and SRCC cover is strongly advised to protect your goods against unexpected financial losses.
